Inveraray is not just unique, spectacular and historic, it’s also renowned for great food and hospitality and is the perfect place for family holidays, short breaks or day trips. There’s so much to see and do that you’ll be spoilt for choice, with breath-taking scenery, fantastic accommodation, gourmet food, award-winning visitor attractions and a range of festivals on offer.

It’s a bustling little town with an old-world charm in a truly memorable setting on the banks of Loch Fyne. So after you’ve spent a few hours enjoying Inveraray Jail, why not explore Inveraray? You’ll find independent shops selling all sorts of high-quality Scottish products, historic buildings, loads of places to eat, glorious gardens and a warm and friendly welcome from the townsfolk! Don’t miss the chance to visit the stunning Inveraray Castle.

Of course Inveraray’s history goes back much further than the 18th century. The old town of Inveraray was demolished by the Duke of Argyll between 1750 and 1776 in order that the grounds in front of Inveraray Castle could be landscaped. The first buildings of the ‘new town’ were completed in 1753 and by 1820 the town looked much as it does today.
