The Jail Experience is open from 10am to 5pm with last admission at 4pm. The Escape Room is available on a number of timed slots throughout the day. For days open, click on Buy Tickets to see the calendar.
The Jail is located at the top of Main Street in Church Square in Inveraray (PA23 8TX). You can park for free in front of the Jail or in the large town car across the Main Street in the Avenue.
No! You can enjoy either separately, but even better when done together. Both are great experiences.
For the Escape Room you need 1 hour. For the Jail, allow 1–2 hours to explore everything at your own pace, however some stay longer. We’d recommend you also use the audio tour when you visit.
Yes! But we recommend booking in advance, especially for the Escape Room — it’s very popular.
The audio tour isn’t required, but it brings the Jail’s stories to life and adds extra drama to your visit.

Yes! Dogs are welcome in the Jail and outdoor areas, but not in the Escape Room.

Inveraray is a picturesque town on the shores of Loch Fyne, with a rich history and heritage. Escape Room FAQs
The Inveraray Jail Escape Room, ‘The Debtors of 1850’, is an immersive, interactive game where participants are "locked" in a room themed around the historic Inveraray Jail. You and your team will work together to find clues, solve puzzles and pay off your debts before time runs out.
The entire experience typically lasts about 90 minutes, including a 15-minute briefing before your start time and a 60-minute gameplay window. Please allow an additional 5 minutes after the game for photos and a debrief.
The Inveraray Jail Escape Room can accommodate teams of 2-6 players. For the best experience, we recommend groups of at least 4 participants.
No – when you book a time slot the entire room will be for you and your selected team.
Yes, due to the complexity of the puzzles and the thematic elements of the jail, the experience is strictly for participants aged 8 and older. Participants 16 and under must be accompanied by an adult (18+).
Booking in advance is highly recommended to ensure your preferred date and time are available. You can book online through our website.
Cancelling or rescheduling your booking 7 days or more before booked time slot is free.
Cancelling or rescheduling your booking between 7 days and 24 hours of booked time slot is subject to a £20 fee.
Cancelling or rescheduling cannot be made if within 24 hours of booked time slot and booking will be forfeit without refund.
The Escape Room is situated on the second floor and unfortunately, due to the historic nature of the building, is not fully accessible to individuals with mobility issues. Please contact us in advance to discuss any other specific needs.
Wear comfortable clothing and shoes suitable for light physical activity. Some areas of the escape room may be dimly lit or have uneven surfaces.
To avoid distractions and to protect personal items, we ask that you leave personal belongings in the lockers provided. This includes mobile phones, which are not allowed in the escape room.
The Inveraray Jail Escape Room is designed to be thrilling and challenging, with a historical theme based on the jail. It is designed to be a fun experience!
Our game masters will debrief your team and can walk you through the solution to the escape room. It’s all in good fun, whether you escape or not!
Please arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled start time to ensure a prompt start for your experience.
To keep the game challenging for future players, we ask that you refrain from taking photos or recording videos inside the escape room. Photo opportunities will be provided after your game.
No, these tickets are for the Escape Room only. Jail experience tickets can be purchased separately online.
Due to the restricted area, multiple props and the possible allergies of future participants, unfortunately dogs are NOT permitted in the Escape Room at any time.
To complete the challenge in the most rewarding and fun way needs brains not brawn. If destructive behaviour is used and continues despite warnings from the games master, the experience will be terminated immediately with no refund.
Due to the size of the rooms and the gameplay, the maximum number allowed at any one time is strictly six.
No non-players, for example, babies, toddlers, children under 8 or adults are permitted at any time.
