When the doors close and the lights dim, a hush falls over the building.

With only lantern light to guide you, explore the Jail after hours as shadows stretch along the stone corridors and the atmosphere shifts entirely. The building feels different at night.  It’s quieter, darker, and far more intense.


Your guide will lead you through eerie passageways and hidden corners, sharing spine-tingling tales of former inmates, grim punishments and mysterious occurrences. Expect heightened senses, dramatic storytelling and an unforgettable sense of stepping back in time.  


This experience blends history with atmosphere, making it ideal for those who enjoy a little thrill alongside their heritage.  Who knows, you may even spot one of our resident ghosts!

FAQs

Explore the Scottish Court Room and Cells, meet The Warder or Matron, as well as take on our thrilling Escape Room challenge.

The Jail Experience is open from 10am to 5pm with last admission at 4pm. The Escape Room is available on a number of timed slots throughout the day.  For days open, click on Buy Tickets to see the calendar.

The Jail is located at the top of Main Street in Church Square in Inveraray (PA23 8TX). You can park for free in front of the Jail or in the large town car across the Main Street in the Avenue.

No!  You can enjoy either separately, but even better when done together.  Both are great experiences.

For the Escape Room you need 1 hour. For the Jail, allow 1–2 hours to explore everything at your own pace, however some stay longer.  We’d recommend you also use the audio tour when you visit.

Yes! But we recommend booking in advance, especially for the Escape Room — it’s very popular.

The audio tour isn’t required, but it brings the Jail’s stories to life and adds extra drama to your visit.

Yes! Dogs are welcome in the Jail and outdoor areas, but not in the Escape Room.

Absolutely! Escape Room changes, however, need 24 hours’ notice.

No, but you can change the date of your visit. Escape Room changes require 24 hours’ notice.

Yes, you can in the Jail and Courtroom. No photography is allowed inside the Escape Room.

Yes, there is a gift shop at the Jail where you can buy souvenirs, books, toys, giftware, jewellery and more.
